I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but it was the first thing that came to mind when I read your question. "The Babbitt and the Bromide" was introduced in Funny Face Nov. 22, 1927 by Fred and Adele Astaire. I'm not totally sure of the words either, though I've heard it a few times. It was also used in the movie Ziegfield Follies where it was performed by Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
