I did catch "North Star" several weeks ago on PBS but not in the wee hours. It was aired late Sunday night right after a very good program on Copland. It's interesting to see what Hollywood's idea of the Russian partisans was - squeaky clean, with just the right amount of make-up grime here and there. And since it was made in the interests of the war effort to promote solidarity with our allies, I always find it a bit ironic that so many of the people who worked on the film got into trouble in the McCarthy era for making a piece of pro-communist propaganda! Not a great film, but an interesting product of its time. (Compare with Eisentein's "Alexander Nevsky" made just a few years before and pushing the same theme of protecting Mother Russia!)
